At U2 Kennels, it is very important to us that our puppies are adopted into suitable, loving homes. Both the Westie and the Border Collie Breeds are active, working dogs. Westies were originally developed to hunt small rodents many years ago in Scotland. While they have since been bred for many years as pets and show dogs, they have retained many of the qualities that made them excellent rodent hunting dogs.
Working Border Collies are still being bred today with a strong desire to gather and control livestock. They are extremely intelligent dogs with a keen mind and a love of work and a job to do. Both Westies and Border Collies excel at dog agility and love an active life. We strongly recommend that you do some research and know the qualities of the breed before you consider a purchase. If they are the right match for you, there will not be a better dog for you, but they require homes that suite the type of dog that they are. They are both high energy, intelligent dogs.
WestiePoos are an adorable hybrid cross between the purebred Westie and purebred poodle. Our puppies are sired by an adorable apricot miniature poodle male. This produces beautiful babies with an apricot tinge to their coat. The shades vary from a very slight tinge of apricot to a beautiful golden blonde.
We are excited for the hybrid vigour of this cross, as well as the addition of the non shedding, hypoallergenic, intelligence and sensitivity and loyalty the poodle brings.
My Cori was a WestiePo, and She definitely displayed the “vigour” this cross is known for, living for 19 healthy, happy years.
As with any cross, there is some degree of variety in how the combination of Westie and poodle qualities are displayed in each individual.
There are many excellent resources available to read and study, both on the specifics of each breed, and on dog knowledge in general. Cesar Millan's "How To Raise The Perfect Dog" is an excellent book for any puppy owner, no matter what the breed. He has many other excellent books that are very worth the read as well, but this one is particularly useful for the new puppy owner. It can help you do things right from the very beginning, avoiding problems later on.
If a Border Collie is the dog of choice for you, it is very worth the investment to attend clinics or private lessons on training these amazing dogs. There are many excellent clinicians out there, Elvin Kopp of Westerose Alberta being my personal favourite. We will be offering Border Collie puppies and trained dogs from time to time, and will offer private lessons and clinics with the sale of these dogs. Check back on our site for availability.
